If you've been looking at vintage handbags and purses for awhile,
you've probably seen a photograph of this bag, or maybe the bag
itself. The marking, on the bottom of the bag, says "Elsa Mfg.
Co. / St. Louis 3, Missouri." I love the way light shines
through the Lucite, showing off every swirl in the marbleized
tortoise shell. The handles, rigid with a 5 1/2" drop, are
another kind of Lucite, without the torti markings, The lid,
with its impressed aster carving, is a third style, carved and
ckear yellow gold. Four little Lucite feet built right onto
the base. 7" wide at the base, by 6 1/2" wide at the top, by
5 1/2" high, by 5" deep at the base. Lid is held on with a
piano hinge and has a "suitcase closure." Very nearly mint.
I can't find any flaws.

Heavy leather Dofan bag in a rather extreme style--at least for
the fairly conservative Dofan company. High, wide, inverted "V"
handles have a 7 1/2" drop. The handles are actually a separate
piece of leather, joined with the gold tone disks in front. In
back, the handle is anchored to the bag under inset bands.
Center snap closure, off-white leatherette lining, and three
pockets, one with metal zipper. Clearly marked, "Dofan / Made
in France." 11 1/2" wide at the base, by 9" high, by 4" deep.
Excellent vintage condition.

Cheerfully gaudy! My guess is that this is a 1970s reproduction
of a vintage beaded bag. On the large side, at 13" wide at the
widest point, by 10" high, by 2 1/2" deep (side gussets
extended.) Elaborately stamped-out, filigree frame. Two metal
handles have a 4" drop. Shoulder chain tucks into bag or has a
24" drop. Lined in tan nylon twill. One zippered pocket.
Heavily beaded on both sides of bag, with same pattern.
Excellent vintage condition.

Dark red cotton velveteen bag with a strikingly pretty, very
unusual portrait of a lady, possibility a princess. Her gown
or robe are done in wool needlepoint stitching, while her very
pretty face and her hands are done in wool petit point. The
portrait has a gold braid headband and one large, rhinestone
earring. The background is hundreds of tiny beads. The bag is
in black twill. One inside pocket with gold piping. Clearly
marked, "Jolles Original." Heavy gold chain has a 7" drop.
Bag measures 9 1/2" wide at the base, by 9 1/2" high by 2" deep
(extended.) Excellent vintage condition. No missing beads or
stitches.

Another conversation starter for the lines at the airport!
Perfect for under the seat! One of the original Boyd Carpet
Bags! The label says, "Go Everywhere / The All Occasion
Carpet Bags." Here's my favorite part of the label: "Made
from 100% undetermined fibers." These bags were manufactured
and sold by the Boyd Purse Company, Athens, Tennessee. Lined
with the carpet's own backing. Twist closure. Black vinyl
handle has a sturdy black vinul handle with a 6" drop. The
bag measures 14" wide at the base, by 11" high by 3 1/2" deep.
Absolutely mint, never carried! Will last a lifetime!

Very large, beautifully constructed, and most certainly the
product of a 1980s designer! Cut to be spacious and to show
off its flamboyantly embossed leather. Essentially, this is
a convertible clutch. There's a spagetti strap with a 23" strap
(easily tied) that's made to tuck into the bag, if you like.
Lined with heavy black faille. One large pocket with zipper.
Label says, "Shirl Miller / Made in U.S.A." Heavy metal frame
wrapped in leather. Piping at the seams. 11" wide by 9" high
by 3 1/2" deep (generous side gussets extended.) Amazingly
soft, flexible leather embossed with a 1980s semi-geometric
condition. MINT! Perhaps never carried.
